“The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction, not a destination.”
– Carl Rogers
Howdy! I’m Sara, a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern in the Northwest Las Vegas/ Summerlin area. I work with individuals, couples, and families where the clients are usually older than 8 years old. I work on a variety of issues, but currently specialize in depression, anxiety, grief, coping skills, and boundary setting. I practice from a systems model, so whether you are in individual, couple, or family we will also discuss effective communication and listening to help you in your relationships at home, work, school, and community at large.
I work in many different modalities depending on the client(s), but my main therapy practice uses a combination of solution-focused brief therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy to help clients find solutions, and change unhelpful behaviors in their lives. However, there is also a lot of humor, validation, challenging, goal setting, compassion, and insight that happens in my office.
Lots of clients don’t know what to expect when they try psychotherapy (also known as talk therapy, therapy, counseling, or mental therapy). You can expect to talk about what you feel you need to talk about or sometimes just what you want to talk about. Also to just have 50 minutes a week to have a non-judgmental outsider be there to listen and understand you, then if you feel like you need it, possibly help you see things from a different perspective.
Another thing that some people may not know about therapy but can expect when they come see me is homework. I know that may be frustrating for some but there are only 168 hours in a week, and clients see me for 50 minutes of that week. So, to help move progress further along I will usually give homework for the session.
Lastly, and maybe mostly importantly, you can expect me to model the positive behaviors we are looking to achieve in therapy. I work very hard on being authentic, compassionate, setting clear and firm boundaries, and understanding that my work is surrounding change which I know can be very uncomfortable, but also rewarding.
I love so much that I get to be a therapist, and I appreciate all of those who have given me the privilege of walking with them through their journey. I hope that I can also help you on your journey. See below to set up an appointment online, or give me a call at 725-222-1348.
